What is the Western Circuit in Tanzania?
The Western Circuit is Tanzania's most remote safari region, along the shores of Lake Tanganyika. It includes Mahale Mountains and Gombe Stream for chimpanzee trekking, and Katavi National Park for huge herds of buffalo and hippos. When to go
Best Time for a Western Circuit Safari
June to October
Dry season and the best time. Katavi's wildlife gathers at the rivers, and chimps in Mahale are often lower down and easier to reach.
November to February
Green season. Gombe is good all year, and the forests and lake are lush and quiet.
March to May
Long rains. Many western camps close, so we plan around what is open.
