◆ SAFARI BY SEASON · YERA JOURNEYS
Tanzania's wildlife moves with the year — know the season, and you know exactly what you'll see.
No commitment required. We respond within 24 hours.
◆ THE PROBLEM
The Serengeti in January looks nothing like the Serengeti in August. Come for river crossings in March and you'll find calm water and quiet plains instead. Most travelers book by convenience — school holidays, flight prices — without knowing what that timing actually delivers on the ground.
◆ THE YERA DIFFERENCE
Every Yera safari is timed around real seasonal patterns — migration movement, calving windows, rainfall, and crowd levels — so what you see matches what you came for.
We didn't even know about calving season until Yera suggested it. Watching hundreds of newborn wildebeest with almost no other vehicles around was unforgettable.

◆ THE SAFARI CALENDAR
01 · June to October
Peak game viewing nationwide. In the north, thinning vegetation concentrates wildlife around the Serengeti and Ngorongoro. In the south, Ruaha and Nyerere reach their best game viewing as animals gather near remaining water sources. The western parks (Katavi, Mahale) are most accessible during these months. The classic safari season across every circuit — busier, but for good reason.
02 · November to May
Lush landscapes and newborn animals across the country. The south (Ruaha, Nyerere) and west (Katavi, Mahale) are quieter and greener with exceptional birdlife, while the north sees its own bloom of new grass and calving herds. Coastal Zanzibar and Mafia stay warm and dry through much of this period, making it a strong season for safari-and-island combinations. Fewer vehicles, lower rates nationwide.
03 · January to March
Specific to the Northern Circuit's Southern Serengeti and Ndutu plains, where over 500,000 wildebeest calves are born within weeks of each other — and the predators that follow them. Elsewhere in the country, this overlaps with green season conditions in the south and west, and warm, dry coastal weather ideal for pairing with Zanzibar or Mafia.
04 · July to September
The dramatic Mara River crossings in the far north — wildebeest and zebra facing crocodiles in one of nature's most intense spectacles. This window aligns with peak dry season across the rest of the country, making it an excellent time to combine northern migration viewing with southern or western game drives, or a coastal extension.
