FAQ

Tanzania Travel Questions, Answered

When is the best time to visit Tanzania?

June to October is the best time for safari across Tanzania, with dry weather and easy wildlife viewing. January to March is calving season in the southern Serengeti. Zanzibar and the coast are best from June to October and December to February.

How much does a Tanzania safari cost?

Private safaris with Yera Journeys start from $770 per person for Classic, $2,345 for Signature and $5,000 for Bespoke. The price depends on season, number of days, accommodation level and group size. Park fees make up a large part of every safari cost.

How many days do I need for a Tanzania safari?

Five to seven days covers the Northern Circuit well, including Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. Allow 10 to 12 days to add Zanzibar or Southern Tanzania. Short 2 to 4 day safaris work for Tarangire, Ngorongoro or a fly-in to Nyerere.

Do I need a visa for Tanzania?

Most visitors need a visa. You can apply online through the official Tanzania eVisa portal before you travel. Requirements and fees vary by nationality, so check the current rules for your passport before booking flights.

Which is better, Northern or Southern Tanzania?

Northern Tanzania has the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and the Great Migration, and suits first-time visitors. Southern Tanzania, with Ruaha and Nyerere, is quieter and offers boat and walking safaris. Western Tanzania is the place for chimpanzee trekking.

Can I combine a safari with Zanzibar?

Yes. Daily flights link the Serengeti, Arusha and Nyerere with Zanzibar, so most travellers end their safari with three to five nights on the beach. Mafia Island and Pangani are quieter alternatives.
