20+ YEARS GUIDING PRIVATE VEHICLE & GUIDE HADZABE CULTURAL MORNING 10 PRIVATE DAYS

THE PROBLEM

Shorter circuits force a choice — the crater or the plains, the wildlife or the culture. Stitching it all together yourself means fixed dates, guessed migration timing, and logistics that eat into the days you're actually there for.

THE YERA DIFFERENCE

Ten private days, one guide, one vehicle — Tarangire, Manyara, Ngorongoro, the Hadzabe, and three distinct days across the Serengeti, with your migration day routed to the herds' real position, not a guess made months out.

"Most itineraries pick one story to tell — the crater, or the migration, or the culture. After twenty years on this ground, I stopped believing you had to choose."

◆ THE ROUTE

1 Arusha 2 Tarangire 3 Lake Manyara 4 Ngorongoro Crater 5 Lake Eyasi 6 Central Serengeti 7 Migration Zone 8 Western Corridor 9 Arusha 10 Arusha
Lodge pool and gardens, Arusha
DAY 1 Arrive Arusha

Touch down in Tanzania and settle into Arusha's gentle pace — a welcome briefing with your guide, then time to rest before ten days that cover more ground than most safaris attempt in three trips.

Meals
Dinner
Accommodation
Transport
Private airport transfer, Kilimanjaro–Arusha
Activities
Welcome briefing
Full day details

Your guide meets you at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfers you to your lodge in Arusha. Over a relaxed welcome briefing, we walk through the ten days ahead — routes, pacing, and what to expect at each stop — so nothing about this journey feels improvised. No activities scheduled today; this is a day to arrive, breathe, and sleep well before Tarangire.

Elephant herd in Tarangire National Park
DAY 2 Tarangire National Park

A full day among some of Africa's largest elephant herds and the ancient baobabs that have watched over this valley for centuries.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation
Transport
Road transfer, Arusha–Tarangire
Activities
Morning & evening game drives
Full day details

Tarangire holds one of the highest elephant densities in Tanzania, drawn by the Tarangire River even in the dry season. Baobabs — some over a thousand years old — rise across the landscape like landmarks. Morning and evening game drives take advantage of the light and the cooler hours, when wildlife is most active.

Flamingos in the shallows at sunset, Lake Manyara
DAY 3 Tarangire → Lake Manyara

Lake Manyara's tree-climbing lions and flamingo-lined shallows, with a seasonal canoe safari for a rare view of the shoreline from the water.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation
Transport
Road transfer, Tarangire–Lake Manyara
Activities
Game drive, optional canoe safari (seasonal)
Full day details

Lake Manyara National Park is compact but dense with contrast — groundwater forest gives way to open shoreline where flamingos gather in the shallows, and the park's lions are known for an unusual habit of climbing acacia trees. Water levels permitting, a canoe safari offers a quiet, low vehicle-count way to see the shoreline. This activity is water-level dependent and is confirmed closer to your travel dates.

Ngorongoro Crater floor, Tanzania
DAY 4 Ngorongoro Crater

A full day on the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater, one of the highest concentrations of wildlife anywhere in Africa.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation
Transport
Road transfer, Lake Manyara–Ngorongoro
Activities
Full-day crater floor game drive
Full day details

Descending into the crater is one of this circuit's defining moments — over 250 square kilometres of grassland, lake, and forest sealed inside a volcanic caldera, holding lion, elephant, hippo, and one of East Africa's last strongholds of black rhino. A full day is spent tracing the crater floor before the drive back up to the rim.

Highlight: Highest wildlife density in Africa, inside a single volcanic caldera.

Open plains of the Serengeti, Tanzania
DAY 5 Ngorongoro → Lake Eyasi → Serengeti

A morning with the Hadzabe, one of the last hunter-gatherer communities on Earth, before entering the endless plains of the Serengeti by afternoon.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation
Transport
Road transfer, Ngorongoro–Lake Eyasi–Serengeti
Activities
Hadzabe cultural morning, afternoon arrival game drive
Full day details

Descend from the highlands to Lake Eyasi for a morning with the Hadzabe community — one of the last groups on the planet still living substantially by hunting and gathering, with a language built on click consonants unrelated to any other on Earth. This is a guided cultural morning, arranged with and contributing directly to the community, not a staged performance. By afternoon, continue north into the Serengeti, arriving at Central Serengeti as the plains open up around you.

Leopard in the Central Serengeti, Tanzania
DAY 6 Serengeti Central

A full day in the heart of big cat territory — lion, leopard, and cheetah all hold territory around the Seronera Valley.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation
Transport
None (in-park)
Activities
Morning & afternoon game drives
Full day details

Central Serengeti's Seronera Valley and its river systems support resident wildlife year-round, independent of the migration's movements. This is prime territory for all three big cats: lion prides along the kopjes, leopard in the riverine trees, and cheetah on the open plains. Morning and afternoon game drives trace the valley at the pace the wildlife sets.

Zebra on the move across the Serengeti plains
DAY 7 Serengeti Migration Zone

Wherever the herds are this week, that's where we go — this day is routed to the migration's current position, not a fixed guess made months in advance.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation
Transport
Road transfer within the Serengeti, routed to the herds' position
Activities
Full-day game drive, migration tracking
Full day details

The Great Migration moves on its own schedule, not a printed itinerary's. Rather than lock this day to a location decided before you've even landed, we route it to wherever the wildebeest and zebra actually are at the time of your travel — reading recent movement reports and your guide's own read of the terrain. Exact areas vary by season, from the southern plains to the Western Corridor to the far north.

Highlight: Routed to the herds’ real position that week, not a fixed guess.

Hot air balloon over the Serengeti at dawn
DAY 8 Serengeti North/West Corridor

Kopjes, rivers, and open savanna in the Serengeti's western reaches — with an optional hot air balloon at dawn.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation
Transport
Road transfer within the Serengeti
Activities
Game drive, optional hot air balloon safari
Full day details

The Serengeti's North/West Corridor is defined by the Grumeti River and its riverine forest, granite kopjes rising out of the grassland, and some of the park's quieter, less-visited game-viewing areas. For those who want it, a hot air balloon safari at dawn drifts silently over the plains, followed by a champagne breakfast on landing.

Optional experiences
  • Hot Air Balloon Safari with champagne breakfast — $500 pp
Giraffes on the plains at sunrise
DAY 9 Serengeti → Arusha

One final game drive before a domestic flight returns you to Arusha — no long road transfer eating into your last hours in the bush.

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation
Transport
Light aircraft, Serengeti–Arusha
Activities
Morning game drive
Full day details

A morning game drive gives you one more chance at whatever the plains have to offer, before transferring to the nearest airstrip for a domestic flight back to Arusha. Flying this leg — rather than driving it — keeps this final day unhurried and preserves as much time in the field as possible.

Lodge pool and gardens, Arusha
DAY 10 Departure

QUESTIONS WE HEAR OFTEN

Before You Go

Is the Hadzabe morning a staged performance?

No. This is a guided cultural morning arranged directly with the Hadzabe community, with a contribution that goes to them — not a re-enactment staged for tourists.

Is the Mara/Serengeti migration crossing guaranteed on Day 7?

No wildlife event can be guaranteed — the migration moves on its own timeline. Day 7 is deliberately left unfixed and routed to wherever the herds actually are that week, using recent movement reports rather than a location decided months in advance.

What if water levels are too low for the Lake Manyara canoe safari?

The canoe safari on Day 3 depends on Lake Manyara's water level at the time of travel. If conditions aren't right, your guide substitutes an equivalent game drive or walking option — you won't lose the day.

What accommodation tier is included?

This itinerary is tier-flexible: Classic, Signature, and Bespoke lodge options are all available and selected with you during planning. Pricing shown (from $3,900 pp) reflects the Classic tier.

Is the hot air balloon safari included?

It's an optional add-on — from $500 pp, on Day 8 — booked in advance due to limited daily capacity.

How many nights are spent in each location?

1 night Arusha, 1 night Tarangire, 1 night Lake Manyara, 2 nights Ngorongoro Highlands, 1 night Lake Eyasi/en route, 3 nights Serengeti (Central, Migration Zone, North/West Corridor).

Is this a private safari?

Yes — private vehicle and private guide throughout, no group joining.

Can this itinerary be extended?

Yes — see Customize This Journey on Day 10: a Zanzibar coastal finish, a private mobile camp upgrade for the migration days, a private Maasai cultural exchange, or a Kilimanjaro day hike before departure.

Do I need a visa to enter Tanzania?

Most nationalities require a visa, available on arrival or in advance online (e-visa). We recommend confirming requirements for your specific passport before travel.

Is it safe to travel with children on this safari?

Yes, though some activities have minimum age policies — the hot air balloon safari in particular. Let us know ages when enquiring so we can tailor accordingly.

YOUR INVESTMENT

From $3,900 pp

Classic tier shown. Signature and Bespoke tiers available — final pricing depends on season, lodge tier, and group size.

Weather-proof by design — Day 7 is routed to wherever the herds are that week, never a fixed guess No hidden costs — park fees, levies, and transfers locked in before you travel Free itinerary revision up to 60 days before departure
